Giving Guidelines
Requests for charitable contributions are accepted year-round and reviewed on a quarterly basis. To be eligible to receive gifts, organizations must be exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Priority is given to funding organizations where we have strong employee volunteer participation. Funding is frequently granted to organizations located in areas where we have a strong business presence.

Contributions will generally not be made to the following:

  • Organizations without 501(c)(3) status;
  • United Way agencies - American General Life Companies (American General) supports the United Way through an annual employee-giving campaign and corporate gift;
  • Veterans’ groups, along with labor, religious, political, fraternal or external athletic groups, except in specific cases in which such groups provide needed benefits or services to the community at large;
  • National organizations;
  • Private foundations;
  • Individuals;
  • Hospitals, unless it is a teaching institution; and
  • International organizations.

Application and Review Procedures

Submit your online grant request to CyberGrants, Inc. (off site), a third-party that administers grant requests on behalf of American General.

An initial review will be made of your request to determine if it fits within the guidelines. Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed. If the request meets the initial requirements and the current interest and focus of our giving program, an applicant may be asked for more information. Material cannot be returned to the applicant and becomes the property of American General.

Please allow up to three months for a decision. You will be notified in writing when a decision regarding your request is made.
